View from AOP: Shaping the future

AOP
Most essential aspect of AOP councillors' role is representing views of peers

Recruitment for the AOP’s Council began in earnest in late February – gathering nominations from those passionate about shaping future optics.

Alongside the 12 elected geographical posts being contested in the UK in 2018, three designated positions representing undergraduate students, pre-registration optometrists and newly-qualified optometrists are also open for application.

Over the years the AOP has seen many changes in the sector and the role of our Council remains vital in forming our policy positions. The rate of change looks set to increase – with the GOC’s education strategic review, potential changes to the regulation of optical professionals, and fast-moving developments in clinical and business practise. Our councillors will be closely engaged in the debate on the challenges ahead.
