Viewpoint: Diary of a spectacle designer

For most of us, 2020 has been like a Rocky film. For me, it’s probably closest to Rocky III and Mr T is the coronavirus.

January, round one and we came out fighting. Fully rested from Christmas, a few extra pounds, optimistic and ready for action. The crowd is cheering and there is no reason to think that the year ahead will not end with retaining the belt and celebrating the win with a good old-fashioned staff Christmas party.

Round two: The shocker, the big knockout blow. February had us on the floor in China, but it wasn’t just me that was almost knocked out. The whole world was floored – we were shocked, frightened, but beat the referee’s count.
