The Big Optometry Blog goes to Worthing

The Big Optometry Blog reports on the editor's day at the Worthing Triathlon

When the first digit on your alarm clock setting is a four whatever you are about to do needs to be worth it. Happily on this occasion it was.

The reason for the early start was the latest instalment of the Optician editor’s summer of sport and a Sunday out at the Worthing Triathlon, a standard distance race. For the last couple of years the triathlon of choice, mid-year, has been the Fambridge Half Iron distance. Having completed the Big East in May I decided a standard distance tri with a sea swim a little closer to home was the way to go. With Worthing just 45 minutes down the A24 and the shorter distance on the run the draw was too great. Worthing required a 1,500m swim in the sea, with a 41km bike up onto the South Downs and a 10km run along the seafront. Having raced the Revolution London for charity so recently I felt it was too soon to return to fundraising, this one was strictly for fun. The first wave was in the water at 6.16am so I figured I could be home in time for a late breakfast.
