We asked Sandeep, an Optometrist with Boots Opticians for nine years, about her experience working with us:

Throughout my time at Boots Opticians, I’ve always felt well-supported. I’ve been offered numerous opportunities that I never imagined I’d pursue, such as participating in company-wide training videos, moving into management, and joining listening groups. As an optometrist, it’s easy to get comfortable in the testing room. However, Boots provides exciting opportunities beyond day-to-day clinical work, helping you gain a broader understanding of the optics industry.

Progression means something different to everyone, and Boots celebrates and encourages professional growth. There are multiple career pathways available, depending on your personal goals. One of the standout aspects of the support structure is the Practice Leadership Team (PLT). They play an essential role in keeping managers and clinicians connected, fostering open discussions about practice improvements, and highlighting what’s working well.

 

Sandeep’s Relocation Journey

The support doesn't stop at career progression. For those considering relocating, Boots Opticians makes the transition smooth and reassuring. Sandeep talks about her moving:

‘The first time I moved stores, I remember being so overwhelmed at the idea of working in a different team, with different patients, in a new location. However, I quickly realised that the Boots Opticians ethos is carried through all practices and settling into a new practice wasn’t as daunting as I had expected. The process of relocating within Boots Opticians has always been straightforward, and the support from management has been great with clear communication every step of the way.

This kind of hands-on support ensures that even when you're faced with personal and professional changes, you can thrive. Whether moving across the country or into a new role, our ethos remains consistent across all locations.

 

Connecting with Patients and Developing Future Talent

When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Sandeep shared:

‘I love talking to people—anyone who knows me will tell you that! I enjoy meeting patients from all walks of life and helping them see the world at their full potential. It’s incredibly rewarding. Another aspect I find very fulfilling is training new optical consultants and supervising pre-registration optometrists. 

‘Supporting future optometrists through their final stages of qualification has been a major focus for me in recent years. It’s a privilege to help them develop and guide them on their journey to becoming fully qualified.’
