What makes working at Bayfields different?

Bayfields explains why it sits in a unique space within the optical world

We like to think we sit in quite a unique space within the optical world. As an independently owned business, we’re world’s away from the high street big three, but with 43 practices around the UK, and more acquisitions on the horizon, we have the advantages of size and buying power that a single or smaller independent just doesn’t have. This difference is evident not only to our customers and the service we offer, but it makes a real difference to our team.

One thing that really stands out for our optometrists is the amount of time they get to spend with their clients. Our appointments are 45 minutes long, and our optometrists see on average 7-8 clients a day, a marked difference from the 15-20 we know many high street optometrists see. This not only allows our optometrists to get to know their clients properly and understand their personal needs, but we know it makes a real difference to their job satisfaction, their mental health and their work life balance.

Want to be part of something special?

Our family’s growing and we need great people like you. To do amazing things, we need truly amazing people.

Ways of Working

Everything we do works towards providing an absolutely exceptional level of service to our clients. It’s something of an obsession.

We deliver it by giving you the best of both worlds: the autonomy, individual practice focus and freedom to spend time with clients that comes with being an independent, and the central support with finance, people, tech and marketing you get from an established, proven group.

We’ll always be collaborating closely with you to find ways to improve and tailor our journey even more closely to our clients’ unique lifestyles and needs.

It’s so important to us to keep our family feel and close community links, combining our world-class processes and resources with our truly independent heart.

'Everyone’s looking for a work life that just fits. Somewhere you’ll be heard, your hard work will be seen, and you get to do something genuinely good. And, when you spend as much time working as you do, that seems like a pretty reasonable thing to want.

'At Bayfields, ever since we started in Yorkshire, we’ve worked hard to be a team you’ll be excited to work with. We’re proudly transparent, committed to fairness, and we know a fantastic idea is just as likely to come from a new starter as a board member.

'It’s no surprise that we’ve attracted so many former employees from the large optical chains. We shape our business around our people, not the other way around. And, as we see our family grow to more than 43 locations, we’re going to prove that you can be a well-known name and give our team respect and opportunity,' said Royston Bayfield, founder and CEO.
