100% Optical: Colour for children

Optician rounds up the kids frames showcased at 100% Optical.

Atom London

Mokki is on a mission to get children to care about frames with bright colour options packaged in a do-it-yourself kit and customisable parts.

The Norwegian brand creates sunglasses for babies aged two and under, and children aged two to five with two models in each box – a pair for ‘ordinary sunlight exposure’ and a second to protect from intensely reflected UV light.

Also in the box are different bands and flexible temples for children to customise their look plus an animal cleaning cloth. The click and change model is designed for easy assembly by kids with vibrant colour options like sunbeam yellow.

Nano Sport

Nano Sport for kids joins existing Nano Vista collections, including Vista Baby, Optical, Solar Clip, Glow, Metal, Cool, Sol and Custom fit.

Suitable for five to 13-year-olds and approved by all major sports federations, Nano Sport features ample height eyecups for improved protection and progressive lenses, while polymer-based Endur RX materials provide resistance, elasticity and comfort.

A security bevel edge reinforces protection, Bigoma technology in the temples ensures a proper fit while pads offer protection and ventilation to minimise fogging on the polycarb plano lenses.

A wide selection of colour combinations are available from black with aqua and navy, red and pearl grey to black, purple and orchid.

All Nano Sports frames are supplied with an anti-fog cloth and hard case.

Millmead optical group

Continental Eyewear has launched an eyewear collection featuring the iconic Mr Men and Little Miss characters from the Roger Hargreaves books.

The eight piece range considers a child’s upward gaze in an adult’s world, as well as having adjustable and slip-preventative features.

Favourite characters include Mr Happy, Little Miss Chatterbox (1), Mr Tickle (2) and Little Miss Sunshine across acetate and metal models.

The collection includes vivid colourways like blue and orange on the Mr Tickle frame or playful pink and purple on the Little Miss Chatterbox style with character figures adorning the temples.

Mr Strong is available in two round designs, including a semi-transparent green acetate front with the character along the temples, or as a metal model in red and brushed gun.

Atom London

Bold, colourful, cool and bursting with personality is how Atom London describes its six sunglass styles in four colours and four blue light-blocking optical kids’ styles for five to 12-year-olds.

Durable and lightweight acetate, metal and aviator sunglasses feature dark or colour-tinted polarised lenses offering 100% UV protection.

TR90 and silicone materials add high lustre and a shiny appearance to the durable frames, while blue light-blocking lenses help to reduce eye strain and dryness when using digital devices.

Atom’s AB3 series includes magnetic snap-on coloured UV lenses offering a two-in-one option. Styles are similar-looking to adult sunglasses, which the company said marked its major USP in the kids’ market.

Naambio lightweight and robust sunglasses for children aged three to six years incorporate a bio-sourced material, made from 45% castor oil.

The eyewear is designed to fit children’s faces to guarantee a perfect fit for all their activities, while Bora kids lenses offer complete UV protection and visual clarity.

Naambio said its sunglasses combine aesthetics, protection and ecological awareness in a single product.

Opal Demetz offers popular children’s brands Star Wars, Spider-Man, Frozen and the Avengers as well as frames, sunglasses and sports eyewear for teens and adults.

JF Rey

Biscuit 2080 from JF Rey scooped the ‘Kids’ frame of the year’ at the Love Eyewear awards, selected for its comfort, durability and design appeal for a younger generation.

Acetate, lightweight and made from a hypoallergenic material, the frame was said to stand out with its colourful and playful design.

Fushsia outer eye details and end tips create a striking contrast to the semi-transparent marbled aqua frame with soft rounded eye shapes.

With characterful design, shaped around unique eye shapes in six colourways, the kids’ range, for four to 12-year-olds, was said to continue the same artistic vein as the adult collection.

Dibble optical

Smiley (1), Wizard (2), Prince (3) and Royal (4) are the launch styles for the new Low Bridge Fit collection from Dilli Dalli, specifically designed for children with Down syndrome or wider facial features.

‘All about comfort and confidence’, the collection caters to lower, flatter, or wider bridges, ensuring a snug and stable fit with lower nose pads and extended temple end pieces.

The frames feature ‘Soft-Touch Intelliflex’ multi-action temples with easily interchangeable short and long options.

The bridge is made from memory metal to ensure flexibility while also retaining durability. Each model is available in two sizes in a range of colours including lime-green, blue gunmetal and raspberry.
