My presbyopia has forced me into wearing a correction and, having lost an unthinkable number of reading spectacles over the past year, I have come to rely increasingly upon contact lenses.

My itinerant work schedule means I often need to put my lenses in when on the move and, until recently, have relied on alcohol-based hand cleansers (Figure 1). These are fine for use on already cleanly washed hands but almost always result in some stinging, the residues on the hand not being the kindest to the ocular surface. I was keen, therefore, to try out the new EcoHydra Alcohol Free Antimicrobial Instant Hand Sanitiser (Figure 2). This is available in handy 50ml or 100ml pocket sizes as well as larger hand pumps suitable for clinic desk tops.
