This year's BCLA Clinical Conference tackled many of the most topical and controversial issues in contact lenses. Alison Ewbank and Dr Catherine Porter report on some of the highlights of the lecture programme

Recent events have fuelled even more interest in this question. The worldwide recall of AMO's Complete MoisturePlus a week before the BCLA's annual meeting opened was the talk of the conference corridors, just as the withdrawal of Bausch & Lomb's ReNu MoistureLoc had been the previous year.

No surprise then that several presentations on this year's conference programme addressed the safety of lens care products, while other sessions sought answers on related issues: What is the safest form of contact lens wear? Does corneal staining matter? And, is staining associated with infection?
