The first atlas of variation in risk factors and healthcare focused solely on vision in England has been published by Public Health England (PHE).
The data in the vision atlas has brought together 32 different indicators from across the complete vision patient pathway, from looking at populations at risk of poor eye health to screening to healthcare services, and eye health outcomes.
These indicators have been drawn from what PHE said were the best available population-level data sources and addressed a long-recognised gap in regular review and reporting of eye health data arising from routine NHS care in England.
The atlas has been created to provide data and advice to support clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) and other organisations to tackle the key eye care issues in an effort to support the National Eye Care Restoration and Transform-ation programme to rapidly recover eye services and drive long-term developments and solutions, as well as improving services and catering for future demand. It brings together key information for local areas on actions they can take to tackle the key risk factors for eye disease, including pre-term birth, smoking, obesity, physical activity and diabetes.
