Fitting the high astigmat is always a challenge, but when they are also long sighted it makes it even more challenging. Bennett and Rabbets1 showed that of the ametropic population, only 9 per cent have an ocular cylinder correction greater than 2.5 dioptres. Invariably, this is corneal astigmatism. Soft torics to this prescription give a poor visual result. The primary reason for this is because of the off axis movement of the lens.
