I am interested in the Interactive dispensing Part 1 CET event in last week's issue (08.02.13). Can you advise me how I take part and what is involved?
Bill Harvey replies: The exercise on page 14 of last week's Optician is the first of our interactive exercises to go live. The advanced imaging module will be live next week when case 34 is revealed. The dispensing exercise requires you first to read the short article for reference and then to go to the interactive area of the CET page - follow the 'interactive CET' link on the www.opticianonline.net home page. Over the weeks you will see two lists developing, one underneath the heading 'interactive CET', and one underneath the heading 'article CET'. Clicking on the dispensing link will take you to a short VRICS-style picture interpretation exercise. There are six images linked to the feature about measurements and each has two multiple-choice questions. When you think you have worked out the correct answers, click on the link and fill out the answer boxes. If you complete the exercise successfully you will instantly be sent an email with some instructions to carry out at the your practice. These are designed to be not too onerous but to encourage some interaction among your colleagues. There is also a dedicated email address for you to send your requested information to. This is the same address for every interactive exercise (interactivecet@rbi.co.uk), but for each exercise you have to put the individual exercise code in the subject box (so for this dispensing exercise, put C30610). This inbox will be open for four weeks after the exercise has gone live. This interactive exercise is open to both optometrists and dispensing opticians.
