This article provides a brief overview of dry eye, the expanding range of active ingredients available in dry eye drops and introduces practitioners to the new Clinitas range of products as new alternatives for more targeted management of individual patients.

The management of dry eye is an increasing issue as the number of sufferers grows as a result of an ageing population and modern lifestyles. Research is beginning to help clinicians better understand the complexity of the tear film and how it can become compromised, leading to the clinical signs and symptoms of dry eye. In recent years there have been numerous new eye drop introductions, with different active ingredients, that target specific areas of the tear film with the aim of restoration and prolonged symptom relief. With correct diagnosis of the underlying cause and understanding of the differences between products and how they work, practitioners can increasingly help relieve their patients' discomfort.
