
The past decade has seen significant advances in contact lens (CL) materials, modalities and designs. This had led to an increase in CL wearers across Europe. In 2020 the value of the European CL market was €1,814m.1
While the UK has the biggest market share in CLs (Figure 1), only 15.2% of the population wear CLs, compared to spectacles which is 82%.2 Across Europe the largest demographic of CL wearers are female aged 24 to 35 years.3

Advances in CL materials and technology means many consumers could wear CLs. Across Europe, 84% of the population who require vision correction wear spectacles and only 10% wear CLs.4
