The Directorate of Optometric Continuing Education and Training (DOCET) was established by the Department of Health in 1989. It manages government funds allocated each year for the provision of CET for all UK registered optometrists, and is administered by the College of Optometrists.
DOCET produces and distributes high quality distance learning materials, covering a broad range of optometric topics, and also sets aside a proportion of its available funds in order to provide some financial assistance to help with local CET delivery throughout the UK.
Local optical committees (LOCs) and other optometric groups who organise their own local CET events for optometrists, in the form of lectures, workshops and conferences, and who may need some help to meet the costs, can apply to DOCET for these funds.
