The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) is now firmly established as the leading authority in worldwide refractive surgery. This is an interesting shift from a few years ago when the same would have been said about its American counterpart. Red tape, perceived or otherwise, being directed from the FDA has seen a noticeable slowing in innovation even to the point of US doctors travelling abroad with certain patients in order to deliver specific treatments. America's loss is Europe's gain and this trend looks set to continue.
