Finding your niche at iDay

Business
Practices need to find their niche, be great at it and target the patients they want. Optician reports on the 10th anniversary of Independents Day

There was a positive buzz about Independents Day this year and it wasn’t just the boundless energy of founders David Goad and Nick Atkins.

For 10 years Goad and Atkins have laid on iDay to galvanise the independent sector, share best practice and create a meeting of like minds. This year there was a tangible shift in the mood to one of positivity and of an independent sector getting back its mojo. Alongside inspirational speakers were fellow practitioners, super independents, explaining how they had identified and filled their particular niche.

Keynote speaker for the day was Gary Gerber, an optometrist who has branched out into the worlds of both magic and business consultancy. Taking the theme, Niches For Riches, he looked at the process of first finding, and then developing, your niche. This meant understanding what you were good at, what you had a passion for and what would make a profit.
