Let me be very clear on this point: advertising in these kind of traditional local media outlets simply doesn't work any more. It used to, but it doesn't now. And that's because these outlets are no longer the central place to go for local information.
The internet - Google in particular - has replaced them in that role. It's why so many of the local media companies are struggling for survival. The advertising revenues are moving online faster than they can create robust online products.
Besides, why would you spend money advertising in a newspaper when you can get the journalists who write that paper to talk about you for free. Why would they do that? Because you would solve a massive problem for them.
