The programme included hands-on clinical workshops and lectures on various topics in line with the theme of the conference. More importantly, it was a great networking opportunity to learn from other eye care professionals.
Public health
The conference had two main streams of continuing education. One emphasised public health as it relates to optometry specifically. Making eye care accessible to all was the main discussion point of these presentations given over the weekend and ensuring optometry has a major role under the umbrella of public health was a key element. The other stream related to clinical optometry and included both workshops and lectures focusing on ocular health assessment. Dr Imran Khan, international program director for Vision Aid Overseas, UK commented: 'It was refreshing to see the importance of public health integrated into global optometry.'
