We recommend that frames be washed regularly, not only for maximising optical clarity, but also for the health of the frame. Some patients believe that washing frames increases the speed at which they corrode. Another misconception is that only the lenses need to be cleaned. However, washing actually prolongs the life of both the frame and the lenses. Oils and residues from the skin and hair are acidic, and if allowed to settle will cause frame materials and lenses to degrade. These oils also hasten the damage to anti-reflection (AR) coatings, and as such, coated lenses also benefit from a daily removal of this acidic debris.
