Imaging the anterior eye- the Zeiss Visante

As always, during the early days of any new technology, prices restrict use to just a few specialist centres, hospitals and research institutions. As more practitioners come on board and the accuracy of the image and visualisation become the norm, the units will become familiar in practices everywhere.

Last year, we reported on a slit-lamp-based anterior OCT system (Optician, December 8, 2006) and recently I was able to try out the first dedicated anterior OCT unit, the Zeiss Visante.

Anterior OCT

In optical coherence tomography (OCT), a light beam is sent simultaneously to the eye and a reference mirror.
