In Focus: Myopia control progress

Andrew McClean looks at the results of VTI’s five-year contact lens study and how CooperVision’s new programme aims to support the management of myopia in practices

Visioneering Technologies Inc (VTI) has shared results from a five-year study at the Global Myopia Symposium, which was held online from September 25-26.

The study looked at the effectiveness of its NaturalVue multifocal contact lenses in slowing the progression of myopia in children.

It found that after five years, the contact lens continues to slow progression and over three years, it substantially slows the growth of axial length.

A total of 153 children with a mean age of 12 were included in the study, who were treated in 13 optometry practices in the US for up to five years.

On average, children wearing the contact lens experienced a 90% reduction in the worsening of their near-sightedness between six months and five years.
