
Against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic and current momentum towards a second wave of infections, this year’s National Eye Health Week (NEHW) had an unfamiliar feel, with practice participation in some cases giving way to patient care and clearing backlogs after lockdown.
But the pandemic has not dampened the need for patient awareness of eye health. Instead, Eye Health UK has pivoted to focus on members of the public that have experienced problems with their vision or eye health in recent months to seek out the advice of a local optometrist. Getting this message across has taken a more digital approach than previous years but this has been underpinned with a selection of news stories on new research and eye health designed to grab the public’s attention in mainstream media.
