Offering hearing and vision services together means giving equal prominence to both but in the right environment. Chris Bennett finds out more from Ryan Leighton

Last month Ryan Leighton, chief executive officer of Leightons Opticians and Hearing Care gave an update to Optician on its refurbishment programme. Alongside fixtures and fittings the firm also changed its name to highlight the role audiology now plays in the group. Outwardly the group has dropped its burgundy colour scheme in favour of a brighter more youthful fuchsia while carpets and dated decor have made way for bare-bricked minimalism. But the change runs deeper.

Another ‘vitally important’ element has been a name change to underpin the group’s commitment to audiology, says Leighton. ‘Not only have we changed our brand and made it younger and more appealing to a 40-49 year age group but we also integrated the hearing care business into the same thing.’
