
As outlined by Professor Bruce Evans during the Hoya Myopia Satellite Symposium at last weekend’s EAOO online conference from Helsinki, contact lens management of myopia may not be the ideal first choice for all patients (figure 1). Indeed, it was factors such as handling problems and patient/parent reticence towards contact lenses that drove Professor Carly Lam and her team to develop the Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments (DIMS) spectacle lens (now marketed as the Hoya Miyosmart) after the concept of peripheral defocus had been demonstrated to be successful in the contact lens design.
