Historic Hastings attracts a varied client base for eye care. Emma White reports

Hastings and St Leonards will forever be associated with one of the most significant battles in British history and yet today the south coastal town is increasingly recognised for its artistic and cultural credentials.

Holidaymakers continue to flock to the former fishing village to see the castle ruins, recently restored pier, Old Town, museums and funicular and miniature railways. Yet, the cosmopolitan town is also home to an expanding arts community, as evidenced by the popular Jerwood Art Gallery, smaller independent galleries, boutiques and a series of arts and food festivals. It is no wonder the resort is affectionately referred to as the Shoreditch of Sussex, or Shoreditch on Sea.
