Low vision cases without a case full of equipment - 3

The third in a series of case reports

This case concerns a child, AA, who did not have an eye test until he was 11 years old, by which time he had developed bilateral amblyopia. Simple advice about relative distance magnification and relative size magnification will help him access the curriculum at school.

AA, a 14-year-old boy, attended with his father for a routine low vision appointment. Originally from Afghanistan, he moved to the UK at the age of 11, before which he had never had an eye examination. A teacher recommended an eye test, which revealed moderate astigmatism with reduced visual acuity. Referral to an ophthalmologist confirmed he had bilateral meridional amblyopia.
