Out of 60 entries from across Europe, teams from eight countries reached the final of the European FORCE Student of the Year, held in Nice in March. Snowball, a final-year optometry student from Glasgow Caledonian University, was awarded the top prize for developing a new device to image the meibomian glands in the lower eyelid.
FORCE (Future Ocular Research Creativity Event) is an annual competition pitching the very best European optometry students against one another. Universities and colleges are invited to nominate second and third-year students to conduct a research project on a contact lens related topic of their choice. Successful candidates from each country then go forward to the final.
