Investment, training and the ability of staff to multitask, all make prescription house Horizon Optical a force to be reckoned with, writes Rory Brogan

Len-Edited-Web.jpgWe’ve got over 500 years of optical experience among our staff,’ explains Horizon Optical chairman Len Doherty, when talking about one of the strengths of his Dunstable-based prescription house.

Doherty, who has been in the optical industry himself for 41 years and started up Horizon 35 years ago, nonetheless sees the need for continued staff training and is planning a major programme for 2007. One of the main driving factors is that when experienced staff are off over peak holiday periods, there will be others in the wings who are able to seamlessly take over.

‘Training is important. We have a two-pronged approach with the training of our staff and then letting our customers know about company developments with marketing,’ he says of 2007.
