OCT Casebook: Disc analysis

Bill Harvey resumes the series of OCT casebook features with a look at some different results

In the last casebook, we had looked at the main options for scanning a patient with an OCT and concluded with an assessment of a routine patient, HH (Optician 31.07.20). This included an annular scan of the retinal nerve fibre layer around the disc and a volume scan of the posterior pole region. Figure 1 shows the retinal nerve fibre layer thickness around each of the discs to be within normal limits, as signified by both the colour coded segment charts for each eye and the ‘twin peaks’ graphs. Down the centre of the print-out, the low figures show that there is good symmetry between the two discs and this is again represented as a composite twin peaks chart showing the thickness of both eyes to be similar.
