Optician Awards: Celebrating optics 2022

Thousands of words and countless stories of eye care and customer service made up the Optician Awards entries, now the judges’ scores are in...

After hours of deliberation, the judging panels for the 2022 Optician Awards have released their results to reveal the final shortlists.

Seventeen categories in all were proposed for this year’s edition of the Optician Awards. As ever, new accolades were included in the line-up, with CooperVision introducing the Myopia Management Award and the Sustainable Practice Award. The Build Back Better Award, to be presented on the night by Menicon, also makes its debut along with a special Jubilee Vision Award sponsored by Specsavers.

Support for the Awards from the retail and supply sectors of the business has been phenomenal. Optix is sponsoring the Practice Technology Award, Scope the Multiple Practice of the Year Award, Boots the Lens Award, Asda the Dispensing Optician of the Year Award, with all joining Specsavers and the Jubilee Vision Award as main category sponsors. Also lending their support is Menicon, which will be presenting the Build Back Better Award, while Marcolin presents the Fashion Practice of the Year Award. Further support has been provided by the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) and the Cambridge Spectacle Co who will present trophies on the night. Recruitment specialist Vivid Optical returns to sponsor some of the evening’s entertainment.

OutsideClinic has continued to back the Optometrist of the Year and Moorfields Private Eye Hospital the Enhanced Service Award. Hoya is once again championing the fiercely sought after Independent Practice of the Year Award.

A full round-up of all the categories and the shortlisted entrants can be seen here.

This year, our 17 trophies will be presented at a glittering black tie dinner and celebration at the Hilton Hotel on London’s Park Lane on November 30. Optician selected a larger venue following last year’s sell-out event. This will enable even more people from optics to recognise and reward excellence in the sector while networking and having a great night out. You do not have to be on a shortlist to attend, everyone is welcome and tickets can be purchased at opticianawards.co.uk.

Guests are set for a full night of fun, which will be hosted by a celebrity, to be revealed on the night. The evening will be peppered with entertainment, competitions and fun opportunities to help our chosen charity for the night, Blind Veterans UK. The evening will start with a drinks reception followed by a three-course meal, entertainment and, most importantly, the presentation, all supported by a stunning audio-visual show. After the Awards have been handed out there will be dancing late into the night.

Optician would like to thank everyone who took the time to enter the Awards. We would also like to thank our judges for their efforts and the fantastic support provided by our sponsors who enable us to recognise and reward excellence in optics.
