The enhanced CET scheme for GOC registrants was introduced at the beginning of the 2013 to 2016 three-year cycle. One of the main changes that came into effect was the requirement that at least 50% of each registrant’s three-year tally of points had to be approved as interactive CET as opposed to CET gained through distance learning.
The logic behind this decision was simple and also quite reasonable. Distance learning, as delivered by approved providers such as Optician, usually consists of some source material, typically a text-based article or perhaps an online video presentation, followed by multiple choice questions aimed at checking the material has been understood.
