ptics is in Chris Smith’s blood. He is not only the business development manager of Waterside but also the second generation of his family to direct its future. Ray Smith, Chris’s father, started the business in 1976, since then it has grown from two people to 35. It started down the road from its current Totton base, near the airport, but has moved twice since settling on its current site on a business park just off junction 2 of the M27. Waterside is clear about what it is and what it does. ‘We are family driven, basically we only deal with independent opticians.’
