Maloney Opticians in Sale, Cheshire celebrated two wins at the Optician Awards 2019, with Rebecca Rietdyke winning the Coopervision sponsored Optometrist of the Year Award, as well as her husband Iain Johnson scooping the Contact Lens Practitioner of the Year Award (Optician, 31.05.19).
Rietdyke completed her pre-reg year at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital and remained working there for six years afterwards. She opened her first practice in 2014 with a consultant ophthalmologist colleague, before joining Maloney Opticians three years later, taking over from a retiring optometrist who had been seeing patients for more than 30 years. As well as running her own clinics, Rietdyke has also helped local ophthalmologists with pre and post-surgical procedures, such as OCT and refractions and with consultants to triage patients in need on injections as treatment. She also give lectures on gas permeable contact lens fittings and works as a contact lens consultant for Bausch + Lomb.
