Ortho-k: A rewarding solution

Andrew McCarthy-McClean speaks to practitioners about the benefits of orthokeratology in treating myopia

Michelle Beach is optometrist director at Park Vision in Nottingham and started providing myopia management services two years ago.  

Beach says she was slow to use orthokeratology (ortho-k) on children at first but added it to the practice’s offering a year ago after having a conversation with Menicon.  

‘When we started myopia management, ortho-k wasn’t the first thing that we did. I’m a massive believer in kids wearing contact lenses because I’m passionate about sport. From a sports vision perspective, your reaction time, your ability to see the ball, or hanging upside down on a tree, all of that is a lot harder in glasses.
