As a result of a report by the Low Vision Services Consensus Group1 in 1999, a large number of low vision services committees (LVSCs) have been set up across the country. This was achieved largely due to the efforts of Mary Bairstow, low vision services implementation officer. The committees are intended to bring together all parties interested in the supply of low vision services in a given area. It was envisaged this could include hospital NHS services, GPs, optometrists and dispensing opticians, social care and health charities and service users.
