Personalising care for myopia management

Three practitioners share their approaches to myopia management and highlight rewarding case studies. Emma White reports
Optometrist director Deven Lakhani has a personal interest in myopia management having been myopic since the age of 10.

Children with myopia are always included in a three-way discussion with their parents and practitioners at Hammond Opticians in Enfield to ensure that they feel part of the treatment plan and ‘buy in’ to any lifestyle changes suggested. 

Optometrist director Deven Lakhani says he has a very personal interest in myopia management having been myopic since the age of 10. ‘My abiding memories during childhood were of having to see my optometrist annually and needing new glasses every year. I never remember being included in the conversation and at no stage were alternatives such as contact lenses even approached. This has moulded the way I look after the young myopes in my care,’ he says.
