Pre-reg advice: Getting into the swim

As fledgling pre-registration trainees prepare to launch their careers in practice placements, Ahmed Ejaz offers advice on how to make the year ahead a success

New beginnings mean new challenges and new opportunities for learning and development. At the commencement of a new scheme for registration it is important the pre-reg trainee does not shy away from the challenges ahead but embraces them to ensure the most is gained from their placement year.

The pre-reg should organise themselves and understand what is expected at each stage of a journey that is intended to educate and develop them towards the level of a confident and capable practitioner.

The following is a breakdown of what to expect and consider addressing over the next few weeks.

Enrolment

The pre-reg should, if they have not already done so, download, complete and return the College of Optometrists Scheme for registration Enrolment Form to alert the College that they have found a work-based placement and are ready to commence the scheme.
