Whether you decide to implement professional fee-based pricing for contact lens wearers, eye examinations, or not at all, it is useful to know the true cost of your clinical time. This is calculated based on your practice's gross profit divided by chairtime.

 In my experience this figure can range from around £50 for a 20-minute appointment in a busy practice, to £150 or more for a 30-minute appointment in a part-time practice. While the cost of providing eye care is not easy to change, once known, other decisions can be made regarding fee and product pricing structures to ensure practice profitability.
