Nick Rumney has long been at the forefront of optometry evolution in the UK, and his contributions to both academia and clinical practice will be familiar to many readers. Some, however, might not be aware that this year Rumney was inaugurated as president of the European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO). After the recent EAOO annual conference, which was held in Rome this year, I caught up with Rumney to discuss this new position.
When did you first have any involvement with the EAOO and what was that?
Early on in my career, I was lucky enough to study in Australia. I returned with a sense of wanting UK optometry to be exposed to new ways of thinking, especially clinically. I used my experience to argue, sometimes against received wisdom, for all sorts of developments.
