Optician Index previously reported that turnover per eye examination was levelling out. Figures this month were slightly lower than in July, and similar to last year. Looking at the trends, this does still appear to be the case, but growth is still good at 3.5 per cent. The average for the month was £139.77 - last August the figure was £139.13. The number of eye examinations during August rose by 6 per cent from July figures, up from last August by 2 per cent, and overall over the year by 1 per cent. The number of NHS tests as a percentage of total eye examinations was up slightly at 70 per cent.
