Eye care professionals share their thoughts on changes to the Optician Act

News of a call for evidence on the need for change to the legislation governing eye care professionals (ECPs) was made by the General Optical Council way back in late March. The idea of amendment to the Opticians Act has been welcomed by the optical bodies, who have consulted their members as the close of the consultation on July 18 looms.

The importance of the Opticians Act in the lives of optical professionals cannot be understated. In its call for evidence the GOC invited feedback through optical.org on legislative reform, protection of title, restricted activities, regulation of businesses, testing of sight, fitting of contact lenses, sale of optical appliances and delivery of remote care and technology – all of which are governed by the Act along with much more.
