Among the themes at the latest of Luxottica's product launches were the 1970s and the use of materials from flannel to denim

Eyewear styling from the 1970s had a major influence at Luxottica's spring/summer 2015 eyewear preview at London's Somerset House, and while no flares were in evidence, some denim did crop up in the eyewear.

The brightest of the collections was Ray-Ban, with a reworked Wayfarer made up of multiple layers of denim, in lots of colour options, while the lightweight Litetech aviators also stood out with their brightly-coloured mirrored lenses. The Wayfarer was also glammed up with fleks of purple, green or red through the tortoiseshell.

‘Ray-Ban reinvents the classics and appeals to so many people, from rock stars to royals without losing its credibility,’ says Luxottica’s Holly Clarkson, who adds that as the denim pieces are well made, there is no worry of the denim unravelling.
