Andrew McCarthy-McClean previews autumn/winter 2023 collections from Safilo’s licensed brands

Carolina Herrera

Carolina Herrera promises eyewear creations for confident and empowered women that also reflect the brand’s feminine and joyful aesthetic. Among the autumn/winter range are the Seasonal and Essential collections of spectacles and sunglasses that are all finished with a branded metal tag on rounded tips.

The Seasonal collection is characterised by a diagonal insert on the temples in variations of Havana or solid colours that contrast the primary colour of the frame.

The Essential range features subtle detailing, such as colour block inserts, layered acetate and bi-coloured metal temples. The 0186 (above) sun model is a rich burgundy, square silhouette made from acetate with a milled inner front that gives the frame a sculpted look, which is complemented by a marble-esque pink Havana temple crossed by a diagonal stripe that houses the monogram logo.

Boss

Spectacles and sunglasses from the Style & Express range in the Boss eyewear collection for men boast eco-credentials. It features models made from Acetate Renew and lenses made with bio-based nylon or premium plastic that contains recycled materials.

Havana is the predominant colour option throughout the collection and some styles feature it solidly while others block it. Model 1595/S (right) is a masculine, rectangular silhouette with a large surface on the bridge and striped metal branding embellished on the temples and tips.

Colour options include black with grey lenses, Havana with green lenses, black with grey and patterned lenses, or a transparent grey with light Havana end tips and brown lenses. Continuing the masculine, rectangular trend is 1597 (left), a flat topped ophthalmic model available in two solid colour options of black or Havana.

Marc Jacobs

Achieving an elevated feel for the wearer  is the focus of the Marc Jacob’s Premium range of masculine eyewear, which the fashion brand said is evident in bold designs.

Rimless, metal, acetate and combination models have metal, double trim detailing in distinctive horn, transparent and solid colour options. The 712 (top) sunglass is a flat, rimless mask with acetate end pieces and temples, finished with a gold metal or black ruthenium metal trim and branding on the temples.

The standout pattern lens option has a Marc Jacobs graphic monogram only visible to onlookers. The bold, wraparound 1087 (bottom) sun model channels a sporty alien look.

It has a strong focus on branding with an oversized J mirror detail on the lug, a photo-engraved logo under lacquer on top of the frame, and a metal engraved plaque on the internal part of the temples.

Moschino

Eyewear by Italian fashion house Moschino for autumn/winter 2023 includes detailing, such as pearls, a chain and a bold logo, that signify the brand’s taste for glamour.

Feminine spectacles and sunglasses are embellished with a pearl on the metal Moschino logo on the temple, which is also found on unisex sporty sun models.

A thicker acetate is used on the cat’s eye shaped 631 (left) model, which is available in black, Havana, grey, burgundy and nude colour options.

The oversized wrapped mask, 157 (right), is made from polycarbonate and offers a statement look with colours, including: black with multilayer mirror lenses, blue with orange mirror lenses, orange with blue mirror lenses, and pink with silver mirror lenses.

David Beckham

Eyewear by David Beckham focuses on timeless design by combining British style with detail and functionality. The range of spectacles and sunglasses are subtly masculine and make use of the Talisman icon, which draws inspiration from the wings of a bird and symbolises power, protection and freedom.

The 7109 (left) sun model is a rectangular, rimless model that puts the emphasis on coloured lenses, including blue, burgundy and green. A gold metal core is visible on the arms through a transparent acetate, or a Havana temple complements the gold detailing that latches onto the front.

Ophthalmic models include 7112 (right), a rectangular metal silhouette that hangs below acetate along the brow line and temples. Colour options include matt black and palladium front with matt black and crystal temples.

DSquared2

Bold styles by denim brand DSquared2 are designed to make a fashion statement and are labelled with a metal logo, digit print that recalls the jeans’ tag and Maple leaf detailing.

0118 (left) from its Hype range is a wraparound cat’s eye sunglass made from acetate with the DSquared2 logo in metal on the temple. Transparent, glitter peach or azure colour options are available, as well as horn with mirror lenses and black with grey lenses.

Ophthalmic styles include 0086 (right), which has a squared acetate front and slim metal insert on the brow line. Decentred branding features on the temple and colour options include black with gold, Havana with gold, or black with ruthenium.
