Chris Tyler liked the Nidek product range so much that when a change of distribution came about back in the early 1990s he moved companies to carry on representing the instruments. His long-term passion for the business has eventually resulted in Tyler and his team succeeding in a MBO of Birmingham Optical Group.
The group’s chief executive first became involved in optics with Cerium in Australia, before pursuing his career at Cerium UK, owned by his uncle Clive Sangster. After four years dealing in the optical manufacturing industry, Tyler went on to join Rodenstock in 1987 when it took on the agency for Nidek. Then, when the product line went to Birmingham Optical in 1993, he was part of the agency agreement deal on the insistence of the Nidek president.
