Optrafair is increasingly being viewed as a major event in the calendar for selling the latest in instrumentation. Optician reviews the launches and instruments creating the buzz this year

The rise of the OCT has driven development in imaging technology and new imaging systems are proving a major attraction for eye care practices. There were several launches of new technology at this year’s Optrafair and sales proved to be brisk.

OCT developments

There was considerable excitement around the launch of the latest OCT from Topcon. The DRI OCT Triton employs swept source technology allowing rapid acquisition of impressively high resolution structural data in rapid time and represents a stride forward from the now ubiquitous spectral domain instruments.

In addition, use of a longer incident wavelength radiation allows penetration of the retina and, for the first time with OCTs, useful imaging of the choroid. Figures 1 and 2 demonstrate this with hereto unheard of detail of the vitreous becoming visible as well as clear differentiation of choroidal tissues.
