History

The imaging technique OCT was devised by Huang, Fujimoto and Puliafito in the 1990s by merging the fields of physics and ophthalmology.2 Over the years, axial resolution has improved from around 30µm at the conception of the technology in 1991 to the newly developed 3D OCT achieving a resolution of 5µm. Together with a 50 times faster image scanning time the result is higher quality imaging of larger surfaces with less distortion.
