Tried & Tested: No7 Duette contact lens

Are hybrid lenses complex and tricky specialist products designed for Keratoconics or a new way of offering excellent optics and comfort?

Last autumn No7 Contact Lenses launched its Duette lens (Optician 07.10.11) to offer patients with normal corneas the visual benefits of its hybrid lens technology. The lens is fitted by taking K readings which are then cross-referenced with a fitting guide provided by No7 (Optician 25.11.11) to best-match the various curves available. The fit is then checked on the slit lamp.

For insertion the lens is placed in a suction holder, then filled with saline to ensure no bubbles form behind the lens. The eyelids are held apart and the lens brought directly up and on to the eye with the head facing downwards. Removal advice is to either gently pinch the silicone hydrogel skirt with dry fingers or with a tissue - in this case dry fingers were fine. Wear time was built up from five hours increasing two hours a day to a wear time of 10 hours, but end of day comfort wasn't an issue.
