Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has a prevalence of 1 in 100 in the UK. The autism spectrum encompasses children that show impairments in reciprocal social interactions, communication and imaginative spontaneous play. Many of these children lack the ability to communicate their needs owing to delayed development of language that is characteristic of ASD. Parents with children on the spectrum often find many routine tasks difficult such as visiting the doctor, getting the child's hair cut or getting the child to try on new shoes.
