For more than a decade, optical coherence tomography (OCT) equipment has enabled clinically forward-thinking practitioners to detect serious eye conditions in their infancy, ensuring prompt patient referrals and early treatment.

An OCT boosts the clinical profile of a practice, increases patient loyalty and profits, but with prices ranging from £20,000 to £100,000, the equipment represents a significant investment.

Unsurprisingly, OCT is becoming a common feature in high street multiple practices with the resources to purchase the costly kit. More than 475 Specsavers stores in the UK and Ireland now offer OCT scans, for example, and the rollout will be complete in 850 stores by March 2020.
