A peer-reviewed study has concluded that 1 Day Acuvue contact lenses by Johnson & Johnson Vision Care are more comfortable than Focus Dailies with AquaComfort by CIBA Vision.

A peer-reviewed study has concluded that 1 Day Acuvue contact lenses by Johnson & Johnson Vision Care are more comfortable than Focus Dailies with AquaComfort by CIBA Vision.

The research conducted among 280 CL wearers aged 18-39 at 20 clinical sites in the US evaluated the clinical performance of the two most frequently prescribed daily disposables in the UK. The findings appear in the May issue of the BCLA's Contact Lens and Anterior Eye.

Participants were randomly assigned one of the two daily lenses and assessed at the start and completion of one week for subjective and objective outcomes. 1 Day Acuvue users reported significantly longer comfortable wearing times of up to 1.73 additional hours a day, along with significantly less corneal staining - 23 per cent versus 45 per cent of Focus Dailies wearers. Subjects were also tested for middle and end of day discomfort. Ten per cent of 1 Day Acuvue versus 26 per cent of Focus Dailies wearers reported midday discomfort and 33 per cent and 50 per cent respectively reported end of day discomfort. The study was sponsored by Vistakon.
